Back and Forth
Howdy ya'll! Sorry for neglecting to send an email last week, I was extremely distracted and had a very busy pday. I will give a fast recap of what happened that week, and also attempt to keep the recent week brief.
Last week: Last week on Sunday, we had the baptisms of Sisters Lupita and Pontsa! They were very happy to finally participate in the ordinance, and both gave wonderful testimonies! The rest of the week was filled with missed confirmed lessons. It was a struggle both due the the heat and exhaustion, but also the discouragement of people just lying to us. After all that, we still pushed forward and did our best to make the rest of the week better.
Now onto the recently passed week.
Monday: On Monday Elder Phabia and I got up a bit earlier than normal pday to get a Bolt (Uber) to the city for an eye appointment for him. It went well, and the head of medical office gave us a free R100 for lunch! After that we chilled/cleaned in the flat while I figured out some stuff from the week before (IYKYK). That night we had a zoom devotional and I listened to Elder Muller give his departing testimony... It was sad but I'm happy to know that he still wants to keep in touch!
Tuesday: Tuesday was a rough day, as I had forgotten my filter water bottle in the flat. We started off by trying to find some new people... Nothing. Then we headed to the one confirmed lesson we had and taught powerfully. Then we headed back to the chapel to get water so I wouldn't die. After that my stomach was pretty upset from the faucet water, and I was stuck on the toilet for a while. Then we waited an hour and a half for our Bolt to arrive and finally got home around 8.
Wednesday: We started our day off by trying to find one specific member family. The husband is not a member, and so we want to try to begin to teach him. We called him maybe 10+ times before he eventually gave us bad directions and told us he wasn't coming to us anymore. After that we spent the rest of the day trying to find more people to teach and were unsuccessful. It was a rough day and I was stuck still feeling icky from the unfiltered water.
Thursday: Today was filled with contacts! We recieved a couple media referrals and set up some appointments with them! We also went back to teach the family who is most progressing, and ditched our lesson plan when we were guided to teach something completely different! It was so spiritual, and they were very happy to learn! We also called a Sister who is in the hospital, and set up a time to visit her there!
Friday: We started the day with DCM, and I gave a nice training about planning and teaching! Elder Bester, my DL, gave me high regards and positive feedback! After that we all enjoyed lunch together and then finally left to go to the area! Our first stop was to the sister in the hospital, so we biked 20 minutes to get to her. After some catching up, she requested a priesthood blessing! We gave it to her, and I'll explain the rest in the spiritual thought portion! After that we tried to head to some other appointments, but it began to rain out of nowhere on the side of town we needed to go. After some short consideration, Elder Phabia and I felt inspired to bike the 20 minutes back to the chapel and try to video call people, but that did not work. We went home happy with the day anyways, and you'll see why soon.
Saturday: Saturday started off with a meeting from a media referral. We had high hopes as we had stopped by him the previous day, just before the rain came. As we began to speak with him, we learned that he believes himself to transcend the need of reading scriptures, telling us that instead, he IS scripture... We tried to pull some information from the Bible, but he called us children and referred to himself as a king who is able to bestow blessings. Needless to say, Elder Phabia and I left, not eager to create a return appointment. After that we met with the same family and put all of the children on date for the end of March! Pray for them!!
Sunday: Sunday looked bleak at the beginning, due to the sudden appearance of rain after waking up to clear skies. I had many flashbacks... Even though I had lowered my expectations for church attendance, I was pleasantly surprised when we had a very good turnout at church! Elder Phabia and I were given surprise assignments to give the sacrament meeting talks, so we quickly prepared while on the stand and delivered amazing messages, both guided as the Spirit directed. We had a nice lesson with a Sister that I hadn't met yet due to her travel, and put her on date for March as well!! After that we had an amazing message to share with the member who was supposed to feed us but was unprepared. Unfortunately, we had to leave because it was getting dark and we went home hungry. Even with the sad end, I was spiritually fulfilled and was content.
Spiritual Thought: As I mentioned before, this weeks spiritual thought will be the story of the priesthood blessing! After we had finished catching up with Sister Onica, she requested a blessing from us. We happily accepted and did our whole process. Once the annointing was sealed... the entire ward went quiet. As I delivered the blessing, I spoke words that I hadn't even considered for her. Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing to watch and listen, and some even began to let tears spill from their eyes, myself included. It was as if God himself was standing with us, speaking the words which I spoke. I know that this blessing was nothing short of divine, and it only further strengthened my testimony of the power and authority of the priesthood.
Sorry for the long email, but if you got this far I hope you enjoyed! If you didn'y get this far... well it doesn't matter!
Until next time,
Love Elder King
