The Tales of Pancake House and KFC
Hello people of the world! I'm back with another email to send, but not a lot interesting happened this week, so this email may be shorter than expected from me.
Monday: Last Monday was my first pday in the field. Our ZL's did an exchange with one companionship in our district so we got to hangout with one of them. We started the day off by sleeping in and waking up to immediately go get some food. When we came back, we found that the one ZL that came to hang with us was the chill one (let's goo) and he gave us the idea to go to pancake house. It's a 35 minute drive through the mountains, and its absolutely stunning. When we got there, there were monkeys running around on the bridge and around the building! It was awesome to see that wildlife. The food was great and the drive back was insanely foggy and scary, but still cool to see the foliage vanish into the fog when you looked over the edge.
Tuesday: Our first day back in the area, and Tickyline is one interesting place. We hadn't gotten our two week allotment money yet so we didn't have any food to make a dish with so we all had KFC instead. The one here is wayyy better than the ones in Texas, because chicken is pretty much all we eat. Going out for visits and lessons was good, and we had some powerful appointments. During the day we got our allotment and so we went shopping that night, so I made Pineapple Dragin Stir-fry for the people im close to. It was a great meal.
Wednesday: This day actually kinda sucked. All but one of our appointments fell through and we didnt have enough time to make anything in the morning so we had to buy lunch again. We tried to do some finding through members but no one we called was interested. The one lesson we had was quite powerful, though, and she's very interested. We scheduled again and came home feeling defeated.
Thursday: Not far off from Wednesday. We couldn't get anyone to make commitments and no one wanted us to stay long. One sister we talked to even said that the gospel went hand in hand with politics
. I don't think she'll be getting baptized anytime soon.
. I don't think she'll be getting baptized anytime soon.Friday: Friday was alright. Our district council included the ZL's and the trainings were powerful. We had a couple more appointments and one powerful one with the same sister who was interested before. We extended the invitation to be baptized and she said shes gotta think about it first and also ask her father. So there's one up and down in the same breath.
Saturday: Another regular work day, with even more KFC because we were all too lazy to cook. Otherwise we had a couple lessons and went to a sister's house for dinner and to watch the first session of General Conference. Conference was fantastic, but the food... let's just say everyone went straight home to the toilet. The meat was kinda uncooked and all the other food tasted off. We all felt sick going to bed that night.
Sunday: We got up to get ready and head to church to watch more Conference. We rewatched the first Saturday session and then the second one as well. After we had lunch at a members house and the whole district agreed that this one was far better than the one last night. After that we came back to the flats and hung out the rest of the night.
Spiritual Thought: Conference was fantastic, at least what we were able to see. The talk about primary songs and their effect on children's growth in the gospel really stood out to me, and made me reflect on my primary days. The most prominent memory I remembered was that off singing "I Hope They Call Me on a Mission". And look where I am now! What a great way to fulfill my childhood dreams.
I love you all,
Elder King
